Competition Rules

Rathbane Golf Club boasts a tradition of high participation by members and visitors in club and open competitions. All players adhere to competition rules which lead to a high level of fair-play, player etiquette and competitiveness.

General Competition Rules

  • The committee reserves the right to alter, postpone, or abandon any competition.
  • Please accord priority on the course to those so entitled.
  • Ties in all competitions shall be decided as follows: last 18, 9, 6, 3, 2, 1 holes.
  • In match play, if level after 18 holes - thereafter sudden death.
  • Persons in arrears (Annual Subscription and Competition Fees) will not be eligible to win prizes in any competition.
  • Avoid Slow Play. The Competition Committee will monitor this.  Players maybe penalise players.
  •  Players are responsible for the proper return of their scorecards. This card should have the date, competition details, handicap, the gross and net score for stroke play, four ball, foursomes and the points filled in for each hole and totalled for all holes played in Stableford competitions. Members need to do this so as to aid in the processing of cards. Before commencing your round please complete the following steps: 1. Sign in the competitions book, 2. Put the entry fee in the entry fee slot under the computer monitor. 3. Enter for the competition on the computer. On completion of your round, enter your score in the computer and then put your signed scorecard in the slot for scorecards under the computer monitor.
  • Failure to enter your score in the computer for singles competitions may result in disqualification, unless in the exceptional case the computer was out of order, and the player indicates this on his scorecard.
  • Players are also responsible for checking the conditions of play. Please check the notice board and competition book for details.
  • Men's time sheets will operate for all competitions and will be available when the clubhouse opens on the Saturday week prior to the competition. Members should note that the management is now operating the time sheets and all bookings need to be made through the reservation desk. There will also be a starter in place for us and members are asked to report 15 minutes before their tee time. Repeated failure in either missing your tee time or failing to turn up could result in having your actions reviewed by the disciplinary committee for possible sanction.
  • Ladies time sheets will be in operation for all competitions and will be put on the notice board each Sunday for the following week and will remain on the notice board until the Wednesday of the competition week, and will then be moved to the desk to facilitate further phone bookings on the sheet through the reservation desk.  Please be at the first tee at least 15 minutes before your tee time.
  • Reserved tee times for members will be posted on the notice board in the clubhouse.  
  • Golfing Union of Ireland Rules regarding Amateur Status applies in all competitions.  
  • Please replace divots, repair pitch marks, and rake bunkers
  • Current Handicap for all match play competitions with the full difference in singles, 3/4 of the difference with the lowest going to scratch in Fourball and half the combined difference of current handicaps in Foursomes.
  • Local Rule for men's competitions:  The use of measuring devices is allowed in the men's competitions.

 

Men's Competition Rules

  1. The following are the Majors:
  • President’s Prize
  • Captain’s Prize
  • Vice-Captain’s Prize
  1. In order to win any prize in the above majors, a player:
  • Must be a paid up member of Rathbane Golf Club
  • Must have played in at least 3 club competitions before any of the Majors

Golfer of the Year

  1. Golfer of the year will be played over 10 competitions marked ** in the competitions fixture listings.
  2. The player with the best overall points score for the 10 events will be the winner.
  3. The competitions to count are as follows:
  • The three majors and the singles match play
  • The April, May, June, July, August and September Medals
  1. Points scale: (except for match play) 1st Place = 10 Points to 10th Place = 1 point
  2. Winner of singles-match play 10 points, 2nd 6 points, 3rd and 4th place 4 points each
  3. The Winners in each of the Majors get 5 bonus points.

Singles Match Play

  1. The closing date for entry is Sunday May 2nd 2010 and there will be 3 weeks between rounds.
  2. Dates will be strictly enforced. Failure to play the match within the allotted time will result in the disqualification of both players.
  3. All first round matches to be completed by May 24th.
  4. Both players are responsible for arranging their match. Unless the Competition Secretary has agreed prior to the closing date of that round, failure to play the match within the allotted time will result in the disqualification of both players.

Fourball Match Play

  1. The qualifying competition will take place on Sunday April 20th with 32 pairs to qualify.
  2. There will be 3 weeks between rounds. Dates will be strictly enforced. Failure to play the match within the allotted time will result in the disqualification of both pairings.
  3. All first round matches to be completed by Monday May 12th.
  4. Both pairings are responsible for arranging the match. Unless the Competition Secretary has agreed prior to the closing date of that round, failure to play the match within the allotted time will result in the disqualification of both pairings.

Club Foursomes

  1. The qualifying competition will take place on Sat/Sun 29/30th March with 16 pairs to qualify. There will be 3 weeks between rounds. Dates will be strictly enforced. Failure to play the match within the allotted time will result in the disqualification of both pairings.
  2. All first round matches to be completed by Monday April 21st. Both pairings are responsible for arranging the match. Unless the Competition Secretary has agreed prior to the closing date of that round, failure to play the match within the allotted time will result in the disqualification of both pairings.

Team Managers will be posting a trial sheet and members are encouraged to put their name on the sheet if they are interested in attending trials for the team panels.


Ladies Competition Rules

The following are the Majors:

  • Presidents Prize
  • Captains Prize
  • Vice-Captains Prize
  • Men’s Prize to the Ladies

In order for any Lady member to be eligible to win first prize in any of the above major competitions, members must have played in at least 3 weekly competitions prior to the first major competition of the season.

Ladies Golfer of the Year

Best 10 cards in the following competitions:

  • All 4 Majors
  • 6 Monthly Medals

Points scale: 1st Place = 10 Points to 10th Place = 1 point. The Winners in each of the Majors get 5 bonus points.

ILGU Awards

A Silver Spoon is awarded by the ILGU to the Club Member who returns the lowest aggregate of three net stroke play scores in a qualifying competition on our home course during the year. Members must be playing off 36 or less.

The ILGU Silver and Bronze Medals are presented annually in each Club affiliated to the ILGU. The winner will be the player who returns the lowest aggregate of 4 net scores in her club in Medal competitions in her handicap category. The silver medal is awarded in the handicap category of 0-20 inclusive. The bronze medal is awarded in the handicap category of 21-36 inclusive.

Ladies Team Events

For ILGU Championships, eligible members will be posted on the notice board and required to confirm their level of interest. Places will be decided on current playing form, and not handicaps.

For mixed team events, eligible members will be posted on the notice board and required to confirm their level of interest. Trials will then take place to determine team players. There will be no automatic places available; all eligible members will have an opportunity to try out for all team events. To be eligible to participate on team events members must have their subscription fully paid.

  1. Team Managers will be posting a trial sheet and members are encouraged to put their name on the sheet if they are interested in attending trials for the team panels.
  2. Submit any cards from play in the time leading up to and including trials for teams.
  3. Team Managers decisions on selection are final and deserve the support of the entire team.
